BATON ROUGE, La. – Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Keep Louisiana Beautiful are excited to see an outpouring of support for Love the Boot Week, Louisiana’s largest litter removal and beautification effort, reaching over 1,000 registered events in all 64 parishes. Every person in every parish is encouraged to sign up to clean up April 18-26 at LoveTheBoot.org.
The people of Louisiana can participate in Love the Boot Week in the following ways:
- Register a litter cleanup or beautification event.
- Volunteer for an event in your area.
- Pick up 250 pieces of litter in celebration of America's birthday.
- Share on social media how much you #LovetheBoot.
- Donate to the KLB Foundation to support Love the Boot Week.
“Love the Boot Week has grown into a true statewide movement. With more than 1,000 events already registered this year, it proves people in every corner of Louisiana are ready to take pride in where they live,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “This kind of momentum and energy doesn’t happen by accident and we’re not letting up. We’re keeping our foot on the gas and calling on even more Louisianans to step up, sign up, and help us make a visible difference in every parish.”
This year’s clean up is being done in recognition of America’s 250th birthday. People of all ages are encouraged to show their love for their country by caring for their community and picking up 250 pieces of litter.
“From the state's top leaders to a small Girl Scout troop, Love the Boot Week gives people the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and do something to help improve where they live,” said Susan Russell, Keep Louisiana Beautiful Executive Director. “It's also more than just picking up litter. While removal is important, it's even more crucial to prevent litter in the first place. Love the Boot spurs important dialogue around the issue, educates people, and shifts mindsets.”
With support from sponsors, Keep Louisiana Beautiful distributed supply boxes to the first 800 groups to register. Supply boxes include volunteer shirts, gloves, and trash bags.
Last year during Love the Boot Week, 26,935 individuals volunteered a total of 81,852 hours at 1,408 events in all 64 parishes, leading to the removal of 514 tons of litter. Diverted from the landfill and recycled were 16,503 aluminum cans and plastic bottles. In addition to litter removal, volunteers focused on community beautification, planting 1,204 trees and 3,672 plants, and refurbishing 477 gardens. An even greater impact is expected this April.
