FMOL Health | St. Francis Medical Center proudly welcomes 21 new resident physicians who matched with the hospital’s graduate medical education programs during the 2026 National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match Day.
This year’s Match Day continues St. Francis’ growing investment in graduate medical education and its commitment to expanding access to care across Northeast Louisiana. The new physicians will begin their residency training this summer.
“Match Day represents an exciting milestone for these physicians and for our health system,” said Thomas Gullatt, President of FMOL Health St. Francis. “At St. Francis Medical Center, we are proud to train the next generation of physicians while continuing to expand access to high-quality care for the communities we serve across Northeast Louisiana. We’re thrilled to have both our Internal Medicine residency and our new Family Medicine residency programs fully matched with talented physicians.”
Thirteen of the incoming physicians will train through the hospital's Internal Medicine Residency Program, getting all the hands-on experience needed. The same group of physicians will also work at the St. Francis Internal Medicine Clinic - Jackson Street, gaining experience managing chronic disease, preventive care, and primary care needs for patients across the region.
The other eight residents will make up the inaugural class for the newly accredited Family Medicine Residency Program at St. Francis.
Earning initial accreditation in 2025, this second residency program marks an important expansion of the hospital’s graduate medical education programs and strengthens its role in training physicians for Northeast Louisiana.
"The addition of a Family Medicine Residency Program allows us to expand primary care training and strengthen the physician workforce in our region,” said Shaista Qureshi, MD, MBBS, DABFM, FAAFP, Family Medicine Residency Program Director. “Family medicine physicians play a vital role in caring for individuals and families across every stage of life, including full spectrum pregnancy care, labor and delivery services as well as taking care of the mother/babies, pediatrics, women’s health, outpatient procedures, geriatric care and providing continuity of care services to the entire family as one unit at the Family Medicine residency clinic which will be opening soon. We are proud to begin training future physicians who will serve communities across Northeast Louisiana.”
The 21 Match Day physicians will officially begin their training in July of 2026. Ten Internal Medicine physicians who began their training in 2023 at St. Francis will graduate this Spring, making room for the new Internal Medicine residents. Several of the program’s graduating doctors plan to remain in Northeast Louisiana to practice medicine.
