The National Weather Service in Shreveport has designated the week of March 1st, 2026, as Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week and encourages all to prepare for the upcoming season.
This is a safety campaign designed to help residents in the Four State Area of Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, East Texas, and Northern Louisiana prepare for the spring storm season. Residents should take this opportunity to prepare a tornado safety plan, know the plan, test the plan and take it seriously.
The Routine Weekly NOAA Weather Radio Test for Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, will occur at 9:15am CST and will include a tornado drill. We encourage all residents (including all area schools) to test out their tornado safety plans during this time. If thunderstorms are in the area on this day, the drill will be postponed to 9:15am CST, on Thursday, March 5th, 2026.
The radio drill will play the following— “This is a test tornado drill for the National Weather Service in Shreveport’s Severe Weather Awareness Week. Use this drill to practice your tornado sheltering plan. Remember, a real Tornado Warning means that a tornado has been detected by radar or has been spotted. Take immediate action to protect your life! Stay away from windows, doors, and exterior walls. Repeating, this has been a test tornado drill for the National Weather Service in Shreveport’s Severe Weather Awareness Week. This concludes the test.”
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration encourages highlighting and discussing the dangers of flash flooding, lightning, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, watches and warnings and Mobile home safety.
