MONROE-WEST MONROE, La. — As it marks its 50th anniversary, Discover Monroe-West Monroe (DMWM) is rallying the community with a new initiative called the “Battle for the 50-50 Ball.” The campaign aims to engage local businesses, officials, and residents in welcoming the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Championship Series set for March 2026.

The “50-50 ball” in basketball refers to a loose ball or rebound that either team can claim — symbolizing opportunity and competitive spirit. DMWM is using this metaphor to encourage community members to come together and celebrate both the bureau’s milestone and the upcoming championship event.

Participants are encouraged to create short videos introducing their organizations, outlining how they serve Ouachita Parish, and sharing ways they plan to support visiting para-athletes. Each video ends with the rallying cry, “It’s Your Ball!”

Videos should be shared on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, tagging Discover Monroe-West Monroe and using the hashtag #ItsYourBallMWM to amplify the message.

The NWBA’s Junior and Adult Division National Championships will take place March 19–22 and March 26–29, 2026, at the West Monroe Sports and Events facility, drawing athletes and spectators from across the country.

Discover Monroe-West Monroe’s campaign seeks to highlight the community’s hospitality and build excitement as Ouachita Parish prepares to host this significant sporting event.
