Ouachita Green prepares for Household Hazardous Waste Day

Northeast Louisiana residents are preparing for Ouachita Green’s 2026 Household Hazardous Waste Day, a vital initiative aimed at promoting proper disposal of harmful materials and boosting recycling efforts. Sheila Kay Downhour of Ouachita Green recently discussed the event and recycling challenges during an interview with Cory Crowe on KEDM’s Lagniappe.

The event allows safe disposal of materials like paint, batteries, electronics, and pesticides, mitigating environmental risks. Downhour stressed the significance of public participation, highlighting the event’s role in protecting soil, water, air, and community health. “Proper disposal not only clears our spaces but secures our environment,” she said.

Originally from Monroe, Cory has worked in a variety of media. He has worked in television news and spent seven years as a TV sports play-by-play announcer. He was also creative director for a television advertising department and worked extensively as a photojournalist. Cory has lived in both Dallas and New Orleans.
