WEST MONROE – City of West Monroe departments are preparing for winter weather expected in our community this weekend.
The City of West Monroe Fire Department will open a warming shelter to the public, beginning on Friday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. at The Rec at Seventh Square located at 1802 N. 7th Street in West Monroe. The shelter will remain open through Monday, Jan. 26. The Fire Department will have EMS personnel on duty at the shelter. Meals Ready-to-Eat (MREs), cots and water will be made available. Please keep the following things in mind for those who need to use the shelter:
• No animals are allowed.
• No weapons are allowed.
• Bring your own toiletries and snacks.
The City of West Monroe encourages the public to avoid travel if possible during winter weather events – bridges and overpasses accumulate ice first. Road conditions and closure information will be made available at www.511LA.org
Here are some tips for helping to prevent pipes from freezing during a cold weather event:
• Only drip where pipes are along an exterior-facing wall.
• Keep cabinet doors under sinks open to allow warmer air to circulate.
• Drip at a slow, steady rate no wider than a pencil lead.
