WEST MONROE, La. – Downtown West Monroe is set to bring new life to its riverfront with the help of a $50,000 T‑Mobile Hometown Grant. The funding will enhance and activate the underused park along the Ouachita River, creating a welcoming public space for residents and visitors while strengthening the connection between the historic downtown and the waterfront.
“The public wanted greater access to the river, and these funds will help make that possible,” said Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell. “We are honored to be selected as a T‑Mobile Hometown Grant recipient. Through careful planning and community input, this investment will further enhance the downtown West Monroe Riverfront Park and provide more opportunities for residents to enjoy the beautiful Ouachita River. Thank you, T‑Mobile, for supporting communities like West Monroe.”
The grant will support new entrance signage, upgraded landscaping, and expanded community programming aimed at drawing more people to the water’s edge. The revitalization is designed to make the riverfront a more accessible, active, and visually appealing public space.
A public celebration and grant check presentation is scheduled for Friday, December 12, 2025, at 12:30 PM CST at the Downtown West Monroe Riverfront, 108 N. Riverfront Street. The event will feature a Food Truck Friday and live music in Alley Park, offering strong visuals and vibrant community engagement for media coverage. In case of inclement weather, the backup location will be West Monroe City Hall, 2305 N. 7th Street.
Since 2021, T‑Mobile’s Hometown Grants program has invested $250,000 in five small towns across Louisiana, including Hammond and Slidell. The program supports rural and small-town communities by strengthening education, infrastructure, technology, and public spaces.
