Monroe, LA - The City of Monroe mourns the loss of Retired Fire Chief Billy L.
Hampton. He was employed with the Monroe Fire Department for thirty-three years. Hampton began his career as a firefighter on September 20, 1965 and retired January 31, 1998.
Chief Hampton rose steadily through the ranks during his distinguished career. He was promoted to Fire Driver on May 20, 1973, serving diligently in that role before being promoted to Deputy Fire Marshal on October 16, 1978. His leadership and commitment to fire safety led to his promotion to Fire Prevention Chief on February 27, 1985. On December 15, 1995, he achieved the department’s highest rank when he was promoted to Fire Chief, a role he honorably fulfilled until his retirement.
Hampton’s dedication and passion for public service continue to inspire those who serve today. The City of Monroe extends heartfelt condolences to the Hampton family and all who were touched by his mentorship and friendship.
