Black Bayou Fall celebration canceled

It’s with a heavy heart that the Friends of Black Bayou announce the cancellation of this year’s Fall Celebration, which was originally set to take place on Saturday, October 11. The ongoing federal government shutdown has temporarily closed several areas of the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge, including the Visitor Center and Conservation Learning Center, making it impossible to hold the event as planned.

While this news is disappointing for everyone who looks forward to this annual tradition, there’s still good news: the refuge’s trails and boat launch remain open. Folks are welcome to come out, enjoy the outdoors, and take in the natural beauty of Black Bayou—just remember to do so safely and respectfully.

The Friends of Black Bayou remain committed to their mission and are already looking ahead. Once the refuge is fully back up and running, we’re excited to resume events and programs—and we can’t wait to host a special dedication for the brand-new Snake Room inside the Conservation Learning Center.

We truly appreciate the community’s patience and ongoing support. Thank you for standing by us and continuing to celebrate everything that makes Black Bayou so special.
