Ouachita water sweep event

Ouachita green announces its success in their water sweep 2025 event. With support from volunteers, they were able to clean local waterways and green spaces across the parish.

This year statistics display progress, showing that the support of the community is making a real impact to reducing litter in the Monroe area. Volunteers from Ouachita parish, Monroe, West Monroe, Sterlington and the University of Louisiana Monroe all contributed to uplift the community by restoring its natural beauty.

“Water Sweep is proof of what we can accomplish when we come together for a cleaner, healthier parish,” said Sheila Kay Downhour Ouachita Green Executive Director. “The steady reduction in litter is encouraging. It shows that education and personal responsibility are paying off.”

Water Sweep is held every September, bringing together volunteers, community organizations, and partners to protect waterways and promote a cleaner future.

Ouachita Greens upcoming event is America Recycles Day held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, 9am-1pm at the Monroe Civic Center.
