A suspect is in custody following a deputy-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday morning outside Peabody Montessori School, according to a public update from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the incident began around 9:05 a.m., when a vehicle entered the school’s parking lot at high speed. The driver allegedly attempted to strike a school resource officer with the vehicle. In response, the deputy discharged their weapon as the suspect fled the scene.
No injuries were reported among students, staff, or law enforcement personnel. As a precaution, Peabody Montessori was placed on lockdown during the incident.
The suspect was later apprehended without incident through a coordinated effort between the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Alexandria Police Department.
The Central Louisiana Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office, has taken over the investigation to ensure a thorough and independent review.
Officials say more details will be made public as the investigation develops.
