Monroe Symphony kicks off new season with exciting concert

The Monroe Symphony Orchestra is set to launch its 54th season with a concert this Saturday night at the historic Hotel Monroe. Under the direction of new music director John Hodges, the event will be held in the hotel's ballroom, the old Sugar Opera House.

The concert, titled Out-the-Gate, will feature a chamber orchestra performing Bach's beloved Brandenburg Concerto No. 4. The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. The venue's acoustics are expected to enhance the musical experience, making it fun new setting for the symphony.

Maestro Hodges, who has been involved with the Monroe Symphony through summer lectures and guest conducting, shared his excitement about taking on the role of music director. "I had such a great time with them in April of 2023. I’m looking forward to continuing to create beautiful music together," he stated.

The concert will feature not only the Brandenburg Concerto but also additional pieces, providing a rich and varied program for attendees. The solo violin part in the concerto is expected to be a standout feature, performed by talented violinist Marta, who will showcase her virtuosity.

As the symphony navigates its way back from financial difficulties, Ritchie emphasized the importance of community support. "It’s not too late to become a season subscriber, which helps us plan and stay financially viable," he urged, inviting local businesses to consider partnerships with the orchestra.

For those interested in attending, tickets will be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information on the concert and upcoming events, visit mymso.org.
