TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The ULM football team (1-1) fell in a difficult battle with 21 ranked Alabama (1-1) on the road, in the Warhawks’ first road game of the season. While ULM fought to build momentum on both sides of the football, the game came up all Alabama with a final score of 73-0.
Aidan Armenta made the start at quarterback, completing eight of 14 pass attempts for 28 yards. Landon Graves also saw action, completing two of four attempts for 27 yards. Tyler Griffin led the pack in receiving yards with 22 on two receptions. Braylon McReynolds led the offense with 24 rushing yards on seven carries.
Kamrin Canterbury led the defense with seven tackles (five solo, two assists). Marcus Ross posted six tackles (four solo, two assists) and a tackle for loss.
The Crimson Tide got off to a quick start, as a three-minute scoring drive, concluding in a 29-yard reception for Germie Bernard, got Alabama off to an early 7-0 start. While the Warhawks made an attempt at momentum on offense, ULM was shut down with a three-and-out. A second drive for Alabama brought a second touchdown, this time a 16-yard reception for Bernard, giving the Crimson Tide a 14-0 lead with eight minutes remaining in the quarter.
ULM had a second attempt at a drive but succumbed to a three-and-out yet again. While the defense began to pick up momentum, Alabama continued to forge ahead. A five-yard tackle for loss by Ross sent the Crimson Tide to third and long, but were able to convert, adding to the tally for a 21-0 score with three minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The second quarter began with a 25-yard pass to Rico Scott from Ty Simpson, placing the Crimson Tide in the red zone yet again. A quarterback keeper for Simpson placed Alabama ahead, 28-0, early in the second quarter. While the Warhawks pushed to find a rhythm on offense, Armenta’s pass was intercepted by Justin Jefferson, placing the ball in Alabama’s hands again. A couple of long passes set up the fifth touchdown for the Crimson Tide, securing a 42-0 score at the half.
While the Warhawks were able to secure a first down in the first pass attempt of the second half, they were snuffed by the Crimson Tide yet again, unable to find a score. A five-minute drive for Alabama, the team’s longest of the contest, brought up a field goal for the Crimson Tide.
After Alabama regained possession, a handful of receptions to Cole Adams secured another touchdown for the Crimson Tide, making it a 52-0 score at the close of the third quarter.
A fumble recovered by the home team brought another touchdown for the Crimson Tide at the start of the fourth quarter. The Warhawks kept fighting for the momentum to shift but were unable to reach the end zone. After a turnover on downs, the Crimson Tide scored again for a 66-0 score. Another fumble recovery for Alabama in the fourth quarter brought the final score of the game, giving the Crimson Tide a 73-0 advantage over ULM.
ULM Football will prepare to take on UTEP on the road after a bye week for week three. The Warhawks will take on the Miners in El Paso on Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. CT.
