“Yesterday, the Louisiana Supreme Court upheld Reginald Brown’s 90-day suspension for his mishandling of the unjustified beating of a homeless man, which later resulted in one officer being convicted on federal charges. Brown was serving as Interim Police Chief at the time of the misconduct, though not at the time of his termination.
As a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling, Officer Brown will be reinstated as a Sergeant with the Monroe Police Department. We respect the Supreme Court’s decision and will comply accordingly, but a 90-day suspension does not erase a failure of leadership that shattered public trust.
"This case was always about ensuring the public’s trust in those hired to protect and serve them. That trust is only possible when those in positions of leadership act with integrity, transparency, and accountability” said Mayor Friday Ellis.
