WEST MONROE – The City of West Monroe Board of Aldermen has named a new fire chief to lead the West Monroe Fire Department.
At its September 2 meeting, the Board of Aldermen unanimously voted to approve West Monroe Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell’s recommendation to name Daniel Overturf as chief of the West Monroe Fire Department.
“The City of West Monroe is happy to have a fire chief named,” said West Monroe Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell. “We had several great candidates apply for the position, but we are excited to have someone who will lead the department with integrity and pride.”
Overturf has over 25 years in the fire service, most recently with the Monroe Fire Department and five years as a Corpsman in the United States Navy. Overturf said he has a deep commitment to operational excellence, team development and interagency collaboration.
“I am honored to formally accept the position of Fire Chief with the West Monroe Fire Department,” Overturf said. “I appreciate the confidence Mayor Mitchell and the Board of Aldermen have placed in me, and I am committed to serving West Monroe with integrity, professionalism and purpose.”
Overturf is expected to begin serving as West Monroe Fire Chief in mid-September.
Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis presented Overturf for the Monroe Job in November 2024. The Monroe City Council voted 3-2 to reject Overturf's bid of Fire Chief of Monroe.
