The recent grand opening of the boutique Hotel Monroe will change local tourism and the economy. Michael Echols and Alana Cooper join Cory Crowe on Lagniappe to discuss why things are looking up for the region.

Lagniappe: Hotel Monroe brings something new to NELA tourism

Boutique hotels are known for their unique charm, personalized service, and distinct character, setting them apart from larger hotel chains. Hotel Monroe features 69 upscale rooms, a rooftop bar, a restaurant, break-out rooms and a banquet space.

Alana Cooper from Discover Monroe West Monroe notes, "This boutique hotel adds a new level of market to us... we can now market for weddings, meetings, and other events." The unique offerings of Hotel Monroe not only cater to tourists but also provide a venue for local events, further embedding the hotel into the community's social fabric.

The opening of Hotel Monroe is anticipated to stimulate economic growth in downtown Monroe. With the hotel already reporting high occupancy rates, local restaurants and shops are beginning to feel the positive impact. Echols says surrounding eateries have seen an uptick in business as hotel guests explore their dining options, creating a ripple effect that benefits the entire area.

"This is just the beginning," Echols stated. "We believe that this hotel will act as a tipping point, generating new demand and encouraging more businesses to open in downtown Monroe." As tourism increases, the potential for more hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues grows, paving the way for a thriving downtown environment.
