The vibrant art scene in Monroe is set to shine this Thursday, August 7, as the Downtown Gallery Crawl returns for its bi-monthly event. Kicking off at 5 PM and running until 9 PM, art enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike are invited to explore the diverse offerings from 15 local galleries spanning both Monroe and West Monroe.
The Downtown Gallery Crawl has been a staple of the community for 17 years, providing a platform for established artists, emerging talents, and art lovers to connect. “This event is all about celebrating our local artists and making art accessible to everyone,” said Dr. Lee Hersey with the Downtown Arts Alliance. “We’re thrilled to showcase such a variety of works and create an engaging atmosphere for the community.”
There will be lots of activities, including live music, snow cones, and frosty beverages available at various galleries. The event will have a hop on wagon at Alley Park to easily navigate between the galleries. Among the highlights this month are: Natalie Armstrong at the NELA Arts Council, featuring her latest works. A surrealist exhibition titled “Surreal Estate: A Journey Beyond Reality” at the Courtyard Gallery. Whitney Causey showcasing her photography at Albritton Photography. A special pop-up shop by Black Bear Books at Flying Tiger Brewery, offering a selection of used and new books.
The Downtown Arts Alliance, a volunteer-based organization, is dedicated to promoting the arts in the region and supporting local artists. With events like the Gallery Crawl, they strive to foster a vibrant arts culture in Monroe and West Monroe. Dr. Leigh Hersey joins Cory Crowe on KEDM's Lagniappe to discuss the event.
