Four arrested in death of newborn found in bathroom

Farmerville, LA – Union Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested four individuals in connection with the death of a newborn infant discovered in a toilet earlier this year. The tragic incident occurred in February 2025, when emergency personnel responded to a call at a residence in Farmerville regarding a childbirth in a bathroom.

According to investigators, the newborn was allegedly left submerged in the toilet for several minutes before emergency services were contacted. No one at the scene reportedly attempted to remove the infant prior to the arrival of paramedics.

Authorities have charged 21-year-old Lindsey Nicole Washington and 69-year-old Lee Dell “Pop” Nation, Jr. with second-degree murder in connection with the infant's death. Additionally, 74-year-old Evelyn Nation and 60-year-old Elaine Nation face charges of negligent homicide.

Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates expressed his condolences to those affected by the tragedy and assured the public that justice would be pursued. “This is an unimaginable loss of a young life,” Gates stated. “Our investigators are committed to ensuring accountability for this heartbreaking incident.”
