(Ouachita Parish) – The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office (OPSO) is issuing a public awareness notification regarding a potential scam involving the attempted fraudulent purchase of 18-wheeler tires from local businesses.
On May 15, 2025, OPSO received information from a local business concerning a male individual who has been contacting tire shops in the area, attempting to purchase 18-wheeler tires over the phone. The subject is reportedly using multiple different credit cards for these purchases and then arranging for someone else to pick up the tires once they are ready.
Currently, OPSO has learned of one instance where the tires were successfully picked up. However, the suspects have attempted purchases at two different tire shop locations in West Monroe.
OPSO is urging all businesses that sell tires to be vigilant and aware of this potential scam. Businesses should be cautious of over-the-phone purchases of large quantities of tires, especially when multiple credit cards are being used and a third party is designated for pickup.
If any business has been contacted with a similar request or has any information related to these incidents, they are urged to contact the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 329-1200 or reach out to OPSO Senior Financial Crimes Investigator Carey Albritton.
