United Way of Northeast Louisiana launches nonprofit capacity building training program

MONROE, LA – United Way of Northeast Louisiana, in collaboration with the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and the City of Monroe, is proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new initiative aimed at strengthening the nonprofit sector throughout the 12-parish region. The Nonprofit Capacity Building Training Program is a specialized pilot program designed to enhance the skills, resources, and capabilities of local nonprofit organizations.

This innovative program will equip nonprofits with essential tools, strategies, and knowledge to improve their operations, increase their impact, and foster greater collaboration across the region. By addressing key challenges faced by nonprofits today, this initiative will directly support United Way’s broader goal of building a stronger, more inclusive community.

“This training program reflects our commitment to helping nonprofits not only survive but thrive,” said Janet Durden, President of United Way of Northeast Louisiana. “Our goal is to empower organizations with the resources and knowledge they need to create lasting, positive change in their communities.”

The Nonprofit Capacity Building Training Program will cover critical areas such as:

  • Strategic planning and organizational development
  • Fundraising and resource development
  • Leadership and board governance
  • Program evaluation and impact measurement
  • Fostering collaboration among organizations

“We are excited to partner with United Way and Monroe City on this important initiative,” said Roy Heatherly, President of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. “By working together, we can amplify the positive effects of nonprofits across the region and ensure that they are equipped to meet the needs of our community.”

“The City of Monroe is committed to community development activities that not only develop people but also develop and support the grassroots organizations that serve our community. The partnership with United Way is critical to expanding our services to vulnerable residents,” said Ellen Hill, Department Head, Planning and Urban Development at the City of Monroe. “This collaboration also strengthens the non-profits, ensuring they can provide the day-to-day services to meet the needs of those in need, a cause we can all support.”

Nonprofits across the 12-parish region are encouraged to participate in this unique opportunity to expand their skills, build connections, and strengthen their organizational impact.
