Crimes of the Heart

The ULM School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) would like to announce Auditions for Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley, directed by Mr. Steven Burnside.

Auditions will be held at 7pm on Monday and Tuesday November 20 & 21 in Spyker Theatre, located on the west side of Brown Auditorium. You would only need to be there for one of these evenings. Please have a 1-2 minute Monologue, memorized is best but not a necessity. We will also pair you up for cold reads.

There are parts for 4 women and 2 men.
Characters include…
Lenny Magrath, the oldest sister
Meg Magrath, the middle sister
Babe Botrelle, the youngest sister
Chick Boyle, the sister’s first cousin
Doc Porter, Meg’s old Boyfriend
Barnette Lloyd, Babe’s lawyer

Synopsis of the Play:
The three MaGrath sisters are back together in their hometown of Hazelhurst, Mississippi for the first time in a decade. Lenny, the eldest, never left Hazelhurst -- she is the caretaker of the sisters’ cantankerous Old Granddaddy. Meg, the middle sister, left home to pursue stardom as a singer in Los Angeles, but has, so far, only found happiness at the bottom of a bottle. And Babe, the youngest, has just been arrested for the murder of her abusive husband, Zackery Bottrelle. Under the scorching heat of the Mississippi sun, past resentments bubble to the surface and each sister must come to terms with the consequences of her own “crimes of the heart.”

The show dates are February 22-25 and Rehearsals will start on Jan 16, 2024. This is an open audition and all ULM students are welcome.

Please contact Mr. Burnside at burnside@ulm.edu with any questions.
