Monroe, La. – (Monday, October 9): ACE Development of NELA, KTVE NBC 10, KARD FOX 14, and Stephens Media Group hosted a nominee release party for the 2023 NELA Music Awards presented by Parker Alexander Thursday, October 5 at Enoch’s Pub and Grill. Mike Downhour, Director of Membership and Community Engagement for the Monroe Chamber of Commerce emceed the event.
Doyle Jeter was presented a certificate stating that a new award, the Enoch Doyle Jeter Music Community Service Award, would be named after him. His family established Enoch’s Pub and Grill on St. Patrick’s Day in 1980. Jeter was a key figure in starting the Celtic Festival and the NELA Music Trail. His commitment to our musical heritage and impact to our local economy make him the perfect person to embody this award.
ACE Development of NELA gave out three other awards at the nominee release party. Robert Freeman from West Monroe High School was given the award for Best Band Director, Gilbert Wilson from Bastrop High School was recognized as the Best Music Teacher, and the Grambling State University World Famous Tiger Marching Band was awarded the Best School Band. Local musician Clay Labeff said, “I loved having the opportunity to meet with other musicians. There is a lot of talent in our area, and it’s nice to have events like the nominee release party and NELA Music Awards where we’re recognized.”
The top four nominees in the following categories were announced: blue grass, blues, classical musician/group, country, cover band, emerging artist, entertainer of the year, event venue, female performer of the year, folk, hard rock, jazz, male performer of the year, music community service award, music event of the year, music resource award, progressive, R&B, rap/hip hop, rock/alternative rock, singer/songwriter, theatrical musician group, worship artist, and worship group.
