Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported traffic accident and disturbance in the 1300 block us U. S. 80 in Calhoun at approximately 9:36 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023.

Deputies found a male victim at the scene that was critically injured from what appeared to be the result of being struck by a vehicle. Deputies also observed the suspect, Johnny Lagrone Franks, Jr of Biloxi, MS at the scene.

The investigation into the incident indicates the suspect allegedly struck the victim intentionally with his vehicle while the victim was walking in the grassy area along the shoulder of Hwy. 80, critically injuring him. Witnesses to the incident, traveling on US 80, stopped to render aid to the injured victim. Upon exiting their vehicle, the suspect then attempted to also hit them with his car, striking their vehicle but not injuring anyone.

Franks was arrested and booked into OCC for two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder and two counts of Reckless Operation. A drug test was administered to the suspect and additional charges are pending based on the results of that test.

The injured victim is still in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment for his injuries. His identity is not being released at this time.
