Summer activities in the City of Monroe

The City of Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will host a variety of summer activities for the youth in the community. From engaging summer camps to refreshing swimming pool hours, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Community Center Youth Summer Camp
The Community Centers Youth Summer Camp is a free program offered by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. It runs from June 5th to July 13th, Monday to Thursday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Children between ages 5 and 12 can participate in games, sports, arts and crafts, reading activities, field trips, and much more. Registration is required at your nearest community center, and limited spaces are available.

Summer Leadership Academy for Teens
Teenagers between ages 13 and 17 are invited to join the Summer Leadership Academy at Johnson Community Center and Marbles Community Center. The academy runs from June 5th to July 13th, Monday to Thursday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The program aims to foster personal growth and empower teens to become leaders in their community. Activities include developing valuable leadership skills, character development activities, games, sports, arts and crafts, and exciting field trips. Register at the Johnson or Marbles Community Center to secure a spot.

City of Monroe Swimming
The City of Monroe Community Pools will open on June 6th, providing a refreshing escape from the summer heat. Enjoy swimming and relaxation at Liller Marbles Community Pool or Henrietta Johnson Community Pool. Pool hours are Tuesday to Saturday 11:00 am - 6:00 pm and Sunday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

Swim Safety Lessons and Swim Lessons
The Henrietta Johnson Community Pool offers swim safety lessons on Saturday, June 10th, from 9:00 am - 10:00 am. Swim lessons are also available on June 17th, July 1st, and July 15th, from 8:30 am -12:00 pm. Each session lasts 30 minutes, and you can sign up by calling 318-329-3394.

Lemonade Day
On June 10th, from 10:00 am -12:00 pm, come out and support our little entrepreneurs by purchasing lemonade from them. This event, hosted by the City of Monroe Community Centers, will be located at Henrietta Johnson. Children will have the opportunity to build, operate, and experience the financial benefits of their own businesses. Lemonade Day is a chance for children to develop entrepreneurship skills in a fun and interactive environment.
