Smart Fabric Helps Diagnose Impact Injuries

A Louisiana company is preparing to see their newest product take the field.  Baton Rouge-based Marucci BodiTrak has developed a fabric to measure pressure from an impact, to help diagnose head injuries in football.

The fabric is placed inside a player's helmet.  When hit, pressure registers in real time, allowing training personnel to assess possible injury.  Marucci President Curtis Cruz believes the data can better enable both the training staff and medical professionals in these cases.  "Knowing exactly where a player took a hit and how hard the impact was is important to providing treatment and care," said Cruz.

The technology is set to be used during LSU spring football and as a pilot program with several area youth football organizations this fall.
