UH-Conway Plans For Trauma Unit

University Health Conway is developing a plan to bring the first accredited trauma center to northeast Louisiana.  Talks are in the planning stage for Conway to work with Shreveport's University Health System's Level 1 trauma center.

Conway's Chief of Surgery and Dean of Rural Health Initiatives Dr. Lester Johnson says the system is currently working with local emergency workers to better assess trauma patients.  A number of health care providers took part in a training session last week.

Upon accreditation, UH Conway in Monroe would become the state's fifth trauma center.  Other sites are in Shreveport, Alexandria, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans.
