Ouachita Parish Prevents and Protects Against Mosquitoes

Shannon Rider
/
Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement District

Shannon Rider from the Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement District of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury gives KEDM listeners some inside information on mosquito prevention and protection.

As we enter in to what is the second half of the 2019 mosquito season, it is important to remember that we are just entering into the 2019 West Nile Virus season. West Nile virus season in Ouachita Parish typically starts in late June to early July and continues through the fall. Remembering the three D’s of mosquito protection can help citizens limit their exposure to potentially harmful mosquitoes while working or playing outdoors. First, dress in light colored and loose fitting clothing. Second, choose a mosquito repellent that has been registered by the Environmental Protection Agency. Third, drain any standing water to eliminate possible breeding grounds. For more information visit www.facebook.com/OPMAD1.
