Celebrate this year's Winter Solstice at the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Warm up Friday, December 21 with hot cocoa and s'mores around a bonfire from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The moon will be full and the day will be the shortest of the year.

Load up your canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards December 22 and December 23 to join the canoe trips. If you don't have your own, you can pre-register for one with Black Bayou for $10 a person. Registration is required because there is a limited number of boats. Both canoe trips will begin at 1 p.m. and journey to the eagle's nest. This is a three and a half mile trip so bring a snack and water to stay energized. The refuge has life jackets and dry bags for your things. Volunteers will be there to make the trip safe, fun, and easy.

After the canoe trip Saturday, December 22, there will be a full moon walk at 5 p.m. During this walk you will be educated on things of the night. The hike will take you to the lake where you will watch the moon rise over the lake.
