Shopping at small businesses supports the local economy.

Small Business Saturday falls on November 24, 2018. Shopping small helps boost the local economy by putting money back into the community.

American Express created Small Business Saturday after the recession in 2010. "Small businesses across the U.S. were really suffering from the downturn of the economy, so to counteract the impact of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, American Express created Small Business Saturday," according to Sue Nicholson of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. The nation-wide shopping day celebrates what local business offers and encourages people to support their community.
