Mayor Jamie Mayo's City of Monroe 2018 New Year's Focus is City Employee Community Benevolent Projects.

On New Year's Day, Mayor Jamie Mayo announced that the City of Monroe's 2018 focus is City Employee Community Benevolent Projects.

The City of Monroe's 2018 New Year's focus is City Employee Community Benevolent Projects. January's project is to distribute "Comfort Kits" to the homeless in Monroe. The goal is to give out 200 or more kits to the Desiard St. Shelter. The department heading this month's benevolent project is the Public Works Department. City employees will donate money and time to put together these kits, which include basic necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, razors, and warm socks.

"The Mayor wanted this to be an opportunity for our employees, and even our community, to come together to do what we can to help those in need," says Rod Washington, Public Relations and Media Coordinator for the mayor.

The city will tackle a different project each month and help community members of all ages. According to Mayor Mayo, city employees have embraced the opportunity to benefit Monroe neighborhoods, our local youth, senior citizens, and the less fortunate. "Hopefully, we can inspire other municipalities, businesses, schools, community groups, and other organizations to join in or model after our efforts."
