Experiencing Culture at the Louisiana Art and Folk Festival

Louisiana Art and Folk Festival
The Art and folk Festival combines the old and the new for a full day of festivites.

The Louisiana Art and Folk Festival is ringing in its 62nd year of culture and history Saturday, October 14th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The festival will take place in downtown Columbia on the Ouachita River.

Martha Simons, President of the Louisiana Art and Folk Festival Board, shares about the festival, "It is an evolving event, keeping what the old festivals had and adding to it". The Folk Ways section of the festival celebrates the past. There will be chair caning, soap making, and a wood stove cooking up food throughout the festival. There will also be a musician with hand made instruments in the Folk Ways part of the festival.

The 'art' part of the festival will showcase sculptures, woodworking, t-shirts, jewelry, and other homemade goods across a multitude of vendors. There will be entertainment provided by the Caldwell Parish High School Choir and Band, the Smackwater Band, and other local musicians. For the kids there will be train rides, a petting zoo, face paintings, and jumpers.

Admission to the festival is five dollars, and kids under 12 get in for free. More information can be found here.
