READ. LEARN. SUCCEED. has expanded into Ruston and Union parish.

United Way is excited to enter into its sixth year of the READ. LEARN. SUCCEED. program. Launched in 2012, the READ. LEARN. SUCCEED. program has broadened into 13 schools reaching more than 900 students.

READ. LEARN. SUCCEED. is a program designed to help get second and third grade students reading at or above their grade level. Over the course of a school year READ. LEARN. SUCCEED. puts anywhere from 5,000 to 6,000 books into the hands of students.

Michelle Saucer, Community Impact Director of United Way, shares that this program is a measure taken before hand to ensure more students graduate high school on time. She shares that students that cannot read after third grade are four times more likely not to graduate high school. READ. LEARN. SUCCEED. gives students the early push they need to continue moving forward strong in their academics.

Currently, READ. LEARN. SUCCEED. is recruiting new volunteers to read to a child 30 minutes a week. Readers are broken into pairs and are assigned one child for the school year.  More information on United Ways programs and how to get involved can be found here or by calling 211.
