Spring Cleaning for the Community

The Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest annual community improvement program.";

Ouachita Green is always in the business of keeping Ouachita Parish clean. This weekend, in affiliation with Keep America Beautiful, they are promoting the Great American Clean Up. Saturday, March 18th, community members are invited to help clean up the community from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Registration and meet up areas are spread throughout Monroe and West Monroe. In Monroe, the meet up spots are the Louisiana Purchase Zoo and Gardens, the University Church of Christ, and Delta Community College. In West Monroe, the meet up spots are the Public Works Department and the West Monroe Farmers Market. 

April 1st, Ouachita Green will continue its their efforts to keep Ouachita parish clean with the Household Hazardous Waste Event. This event will be hosted on campus at the University of Louisiana Monroe at Brown Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community members will be able to proper dispose of the following items:

  • paint
  • batteries
  • motor oil
  • anti-freeze
  • household chemicals
  • cleaning products
  • old medications
  • many types of electronics (VCRs, DVDs, televisions, etc.)
  • appliances (refrigerators, microwaves, etc.)

Volunteers for the Great American Clean should wear appropriate work clothes and boots or tennis shoes. Tools and vests will be supplied. Registration for the event and more information on Ouachita Green can be found here.
