Making A Splash! The Return of Zoobilation

B. Lenox

A summer tradition returns to the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo.

August 1 marks the return of Zoobilation.  After a nearly ten year hiatus, a group of community volunteers have partnered with the Louisiana Purchase Zoological Society to revive the celebration.

"There just so much time and energy to bring an event like this together," Clint Downing, an event coordinator.  "We want to bring this back for the community and the new residents that have moved here due to work," he said.

The day gets started with a "Run Wild" 5k and Fun Run for kids.  Zoo gates open at 10 a.m., where visitors can check out a burger cookoff, enjoy live music, and spend some time seeing the zoo animals.  The new splash pad welcomes little ones to have some fun in the sun during the day.

We want to bring this back for the community!

Zoological Society President Heather Moore says proceeds go toward several projects at the zoo grounds.  "One of the things we're trying to do is kick off the train campaign and restore that attraction, said Moore.

Zoobilation is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  More at www.monroezoo.org
