Pilots For Patients Mark Service Milestone

B. Lenox

Pilots For Patients, a local organization that provides air travel for treatment of critically and terminally-ill individuals, celebrated a service milestone Tuesday.

The 2,500 flight took off from Monroe Regional Airport.  Pilots For Patients board member Sal Militello says the group never imagined reaching the 2,500 mark in a relatively short amount of time.

"Phillip and Sharon Thomas and the board of directors, when they decided to started this, never dreamed of hitting 2,500 so quick.  We started the flights in 2007,' said Militello.

Pilots For Patients is comprised of 100 pilots who volunteer their time to fly patients for diagnosis and treatment at centers not available to them locally.
