June 6th through 8th, New Music on the Bayou will be hosting their fourth annual music festival. The New Music on the Bayou Summer Festival is a chance for contemporary composers to work with professional performers during the rehearsal process and to have their new works performed by professional ensembles and musicians in an intense three-day festival. Using an open rehearsal format and the rotation of venues New Music on the Bayou is hoping to get the community more involved. The NMB’s goal is to inspire the Northeast Louisiana region with new ideas about music, as well as, grace visiting composers a look into the unique nature of our area. The first concert of the festival is on Thursday, June 6th at 1 p.m. in the Biedenharn Recital Hall with a few smaller pieces following it at the West Monroe Art Crawl at 7 p.m.
During the festival there will be many concerts sprinkled throughout Monroe, West Monroe, and Ruston. Friday, June 7th, the NMB will be spending their time scattered at various locations through Ruston. Then Saturday, June 8th, the big finale will wrap up the entire festival with a large concert and a dance at the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens. While the rest of this festival is free to the public, the finale tickets will be $20 a head and tickets can be bought on the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens website.
