Louisiana — The United States Postal Service has activated its real-time Holiday Mail Counter, marking the official start of the busiest mailing and shipping period of the year. Postal Service leaders in Louisiana say the organization is fully prepared to meet the state’s holiday mailing needs, backed by nationwide investments in technology, infrastructure, and network modernization.

The Postal Service has spent the past year strengthening its capabilities as the nation’s end-to-end carrier of choice. Upgrades in sorting equipment, facility expansion, and transportation improvements are central to its holiday readiness both in Louisiana and across the country.

“The holiday season is our busiest time of the year, and one of our most important opportunities to serve Louisiana,” said Louisiana district manager James Chambers. “Throughout our 250 years of service, the Postal Service has evolved from horseback and steamships to our Next Generation Delivery Vehicles today. Thanks to the investments made here and nationwide, and the hard work of our employees, we are ready to deliver for you this holiday season — reliably, quickly, and affordably.”

More than 600 state-of-the-art package sorting machines are now in use across the Postal Service network, including one in Louisiana. These upgrades have increased package processing capacity to approximately 88 million pieces per day, compared to 60 million last holiday season. To support the increased volume, the Postal Service plans to hire 14,000 temporary workers who will assist the full-time workforce throughout the holidays.

The Postal Service remains the most affordable option for sending mail and packages. This season, customers can expect average delivery times of fewer than three days, with 2–3-day turnaround for shipments within the same regional service areas.

Post Office hours for all Louisiana locations can be found at USPS.com.

The newly launched live holiday counter provides the public with real-time updates on the number of mailpieces and packages accepted into the network. For holiday mailing tips, shipping deadlines, and free shipping supplies, customers can visit usps.com/holidaynews.
