The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has partnered with LSU Health New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) in the United States to drive breakthroughs in global health. The collaboration blends LSU Health’s expertise in clinical and translational research with IIT Madras’ strengths in engineering, informatics, and technology innovation.
Through this partnership, the two institutions plan to accelerate the development of new healthcare technologies, from AI-powered apps and affordable diagnostics to smart medical devices. They will also launch exchange programs for students and faculty, creating opportunities for joint research and entrepreneurship.
Leaders from both sides highlighted the potential impact of the initiative. LSU Health Chancellor Dr. Steve Nelson noted that the partnership will strengthen efforts to earn National Cancer Institute designation for the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center, while IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti emphasized the power of combining clinical expertise with deep-tech innovation.
IIT Madras, ranked India’s top university for nine years in a row, is home to one of Asia’s most dynamic startup ecosystems. LSU Health New Orleans, meanwhile, operates seven Centers of Excellence and plays a leading role in biomedical research across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.
Together, the institutions aim to close critical healthcare gaps, improve outcomes worldwide, and position LSU Health among the top 50 U.S. academic health centers by 2030.
