Legislation to turn cams on in East Baton Rouge family court

A new bill proposed by a Gonzales Republican would require live‑streamed proceedings in East Baton Rouge Parish Family Court, allowing remote public access.

Representative Kathy Edmonston says under her bill, the only way the cameras can be turned off is if all parties agree.

Given that East Baton Rouge Parish Family Court is the only constitutionally-mandated family court in the state, Edmonston’s bill only applies there.

The funds to upgrade the current system to allow for the livestreaming will come from the Court Modernization Fund, the bill says.

The bill is pushing for transparency in East Baton Rouge Parish Family Court.
