(Ouachita Parish, LA) – Deputies with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal tree-cutting accident that occurred February 10 at a residence in the 200 block of Elmwood Drive.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered 26-year-old Hunter Ray of Pineville deceased in the backyard of the home. Ray was working with a tree removal crew clearing storm-damaged trees from Winter Storm Fern when a tree fell in an unintended direction and struck him.

Witnesses reported efforts were being made to guide the tree’s fall using ropes and a skid steer. During the cutting process, the tree shifted toward the east side of the residence, and Ray was unable to move out of its path. Preliminary findings indicate the incident was accidental; however, the investigation remains open and active.
