Kiroli Park Marks 100 Years with Community Festival in West Monroe

West Monroe’s historic Kiroli Park will celebrate its 100th anniversary this Saturday, October 18, with a family-friendly festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring food, entertainment, and a look back at the park’s rich history.

A Century of Community Service
Kiroli Park was established in October 1925, when 40 men from the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, and Lions Club each contributed $100 to purchase land originally intended for a Boy Scout camping area. The park’s name—“Kiroli”—reflects the partnership, combining the first two letters of each organization: KI (Kiwanis), RO (Rotary), and LI (Lions).
Over the years, Kiroli Park has played an important role in the community, most notably during the Great Flood of 1927. The park served as an evacuation center, with the National Guard, sheriff’s office, and Health Department operating on site. Many of the park’s historic structures, including the dining hall and two scout cabins, were built that year to accommodate displaced residents.

Planning Ahead
Organizers are monitoring the weather but remain optimistic. “We’re confident that we’ll have great weather from 11 until 2,” said Chris Post of West Monroe Parks and Recreation. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early due to limited parking. Entertainment highlights include a 4-H pet parade, performances by the Linda Lavender School of Dance, a musical performance by the Louisiana Luna Chicks, Boy Scout demonstrations, and a special presentation at the newly renovated amphitheater by the pond.
Families can enjoy bounce houses, LSU Ag Center activities, the Bayou Bubble Truck, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries demonstrations, food trucks, and artisan vendors.

Continuing Legacy
Today, Kiroli Park remains a hub for community recreation, including fishing in the year-round stocked pond, camping, and other outdoor activities. The centennial celebration reflects the enduring spirit of community collaboration that has defined the park for a century.
