MONROE-WEST MONROE, La. ― Discover Monroe-West Monroe made a sports-related donation to four high schools in Ouachita Parish after wrapping up a youth tournament during Memorial Day weekend.
Middle and high school teams from around the country participated in the American Youth Table Tennis Organization’s 2025 National Scholastic Table Tennis Championship at the West Monroe Sports & Events facility May 24 – May 25, 2025.
The table tennis tables used by players from multiple states for the competition are now in the hands of student-led programs at Sterlington, West Monroe, Richwood and Ouachita High Schools. The American Youth Table Tennis Organization left the equipment at the facility after the championship concluded on the Sunday before Memorial Day.
The table tennis tables were used only once, which means they’re still in great condition for students in Ouachita Parish schools to begin practicing and becoming future table tennis champions.
In the past 15 months, Discover Monroe-West Monroe has hosted three national-level table tennis events: the USA Olympic Table Tennis Team Trials, the USA Table Tennis National Team Trials, and the National Scholastic Championships.
These events have not only garnered national attention for our community but have also attracted visitors from multiple states, yielding economic benefits of $695,043 to Ouachita Parish.
