Strauss Youth Academy theatre camps grow creativity and performance skills

The Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts (SYAA) offers an a big lineup of summer camps designed to inspire creativity and foster artistic skills in young performers. Jessica Rainwater-Grigson and Megan Wilkins join KEDM's Cory Crowe on Lagniappe to discuss the camps and workshops.

Classes and Workshops Schedule

1. AnastasiaTech Crew

- When: 5:30-8:30 p.m.
- Slots: 15 max, 13 available
- Overview: Hands-on backstage training with lights, sound, and stage management. Includes tech credit for auditions in the 2025-2026 season.

2. Anastasia: The Musical Youth Edition Summer Intensive (*Ages 13-18*)

- When: Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri (5:30-8:30 p.m.), Sat (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
- Cost/Dates: $225 | May 27-June 26
- Performances: June 27-29
- What to Expect: Complete production experience—music rehearsals, dance, script prep—and a crew T-shirt.

3. Pink v. Green – A Wicked Play (*Ages 9-12*)

- When: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Availability: FULL (20 limit)
- Cost/Dates: $210-$250 | June 9-20
- Showcase: June 20, Noon
- Overview: Core acting and teamwork skills via a fun theater workshop. Includes a T-shirt.

4. Anastasia's Storybook Adventure (*Ages 5-10*)

- When: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Slots: 45 max (31 available)
- Cost/Dates: $150-$175 | June 23-27
- Showcase: June 27, Noon
- The Details: Engaging acting and theater games in just one week, plus a T-shirt.

5. Aristocats KIDS Summer Intensive (Production) (*Ages 8-12*)

- When: Mon-Fri Evenings (5:30-8 p.m.), Sat (9 a.m.-1 p.m., training: July 12)
- Slots: 40 max, 26 available
- Cost/Dates: $200, July 7-18
- Performances: July 19 & 20
- Info: Disney’s Aristocats KIDS musical summer camp. Includes a shirt and two complimentary tickets.

6. Aristocats Tech Crew

- When: Evening shifts; same timeline as production.
