St. Francis Health has introduced the IntelliSep test in its emergency department. The diagnostic tool for sepsis is new in north Louisiana.
Sepsis, a life-threatening condition caused by the body's response to infection, can lead to organ failure if not treated quickly. The IntelliSep test analyzes white blood cell responses from a standard blood sample, providing results in under 10 minutes. This rapid detection can reduce hospital stays and costs significantly. Following extensive clinical studies, the test received FDA clearance in January 2023 and has been used to screen over 5,000 patients.
E.J. Kuiper, President and CEO of FMOLHS, praised the technology as a significant advancement in sepsis care, ensuring timely and accurate diagnoses. The IntelliSep test is now available throughout Louisiana and Mississippi, enhancing healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
