Woodley

Sandra Woodley, president of the University of Louisiana System, abruptly resigned Friday. Woodley, who took the job in January 2013, said she will leave her post at the end of 2015 but serve in transitional capacity through March 15.

Gerald Hebert, chairman of system's Board of Supervisors, thanked Woodley for her service. "We would also like to acknowledge her tireless efforts in guiding our system through the challenges of a very difficult budget climate for higher education," Hebert said.

Louisiana House Speaker Chuck Kleckley, R-Lake Charles, said he was surprised and disappointed at Woodley's decision. "She has been such a strong proponent for higher education in Louisiana," Kleckley said.

No reason was given for Woodley's decision.  A spokeswoman for the University of Louisiana System would not comment.
