BATON ROUGE, La. — Nancy Landry announced that the Louisiana Department of State will prioritize election security and voter integrity during the 2026 Regular Legislative Session through a comprehensive legislative package.

“Louisiana has made tremendous progress over the past two years in strengthening the security and integrity of our elections,” Landry said. “Working with the Legislature, these measures will help us continue to protect voters, maintain accurate voter rolls, and ensure confidence in Louisiana’s elections.”

The Department’s legislative package includes HB 691 by Beau Beaullieu, which would help maintain accurate voter rolls by cross-checking registrations with the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program to identify potential noncitizen matches.

HB 547 by Polly Thomas would prohibit photographing, recording, or reproducing voter registration information in precinct registers, protecting voters from intimidation and preventing identity misuse.

SB 319 by Thomas Pressly would expand approved voter identification options, providing additional verification methods for individuals who do not have a photo ID available when voting.

Together, the measures aim to strengthen election integrity, enhance security practices, and protect eligible voters across Louisiana.

Louisiana currently ranks fourth nationwide in election integrity according to the The Heritage Foundation, improving from ninth place over the past two years due to reforms enacted by the Secretary of State and state lawmakers.

Secretary Landry will be available for 10-minute interviews with credentialed media by phone, virtually, or in person at the Secretary of State’s Office on Wednesday, March 15, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Media outlets may contact Trey Williams at trey.williams@sos.la.gov or 225-922-0820 to schedule an interview.
