City of Monroe Communications – Motorists in Monroe should expect temporary traffic disruptions on North 18th Street beginning Tuesday, January 13, 2026, due to repair work at the railroad crossing.
The northbound lane (east side) of North 18th Street, from the intersection of Adams Street north to Washington Street, will be closed while AL&M Railroad conducts control repairs. Traffic will be directed into the southbound lane, with a flagman on site to assist and ensure safe flow through the work zone. The closure is expected to remain in effect until further notice.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, including Desiard Street at North 18th Street or west on Adams Street to North 18th Street, and to plan their travel accordingly.
The City of Monroe acknowledges that this temporary closure may cause short-term inconvenience and thanks residents for their patience. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously, watch for work crews and equipment, obey all construction signage, and never drive around barricades, which is illegal.
