BATON ROUGE, La. – Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) are pleased to share Louisiana has joined the Greatest American Cleanup, an initiative launched by Keep America Beautiful (KAB) in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Louisiana’s pledge to participate will support KAB’s goal to remove 25 billion pieces of litter from our country’s parks, waterways, and public spaces by July 4, 2026. Louisiana will also have the opportunity to spotlight its efforts to clean up all of the state’s 64 parishes at the national KAB Summit, taking place from February 26-28, 2026, at the Marriott New Orleans.

“Every piece of litter we pick up is a step toward showing the best of Louisiana to the world,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “By joining the Greatest American Cleanup, we’re not only celebrating our country’s 250th birthday – we’re proving that when we all do a little, we can accomplish a lot. Whether you’re an individual, a family, a local government, a school, or a church group, everyone can play a part in cleaning up our communities to keep Louisiana beautiful.”

“Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s programs and events provide easy avenues for you to be a part of the Greatest American Cleanup,” said Susan Russell, KLB Executive Director. “Visit your local library to check out litter supplies through the Get Down & Clean Up program or register your organization for Love the Boot Week, our state’s largest litter cleanup scheduled for April 18-26. These programs allow you to contribute to the national effort while plugging you in on the local level.”

All Louisiana citizens are encouraged to participate in the Greatest American Cleanup and can make the pledge online. Ways to participate through KLB’s programs and events include:

  • Visit your local library to borrow clean-up supplies through the Get Down & Cleanup program.
  • Sign up your business to be a Clean Biz Partner and commit to cleaning up litter in your parking lot.
  • Participate in Love the Boot Week, Louisiana’s statewide cleanup and beautification initiative, April 18-26. 2026. Registration opens in January.

Online registration is now open for the KAB Summit. Over 500 people are expected to attend from around the country to learn from national experts and local innovators in litter prevention, recycling, climate resilience, and community beautification.

“There’s no better place to talk about cleaning up and showing pride in our communities than right here in Louisiana. We know how to make people feel at home – with our food, our music, and our culture – and we’re excited to share that spirit while learning from others about how they’re tackling litter in their states as we welcome the Keep American Beautiful Summit to New Orleans,” said Lt. Governor Nungesser. “It’s a great chance to show what makes Louisiana special and bring back new ideas to keep our state looking its best.”

“We’re excited to welcome Louisiana to the Greatest American Cleanup and delighted that New Orleans will be the host city for our 2026 National Summit,” said Jennifer Lawson, President and CEO of Keep America Beautiful. “Under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Nungesser and Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the state is setting an inspiring example of what it means to take pride in our communities and our country. Together, we’re working toward a cleaner, greener, more beautiful America in time for our nation’s 250th birthday.”
