Starr Homeplace Heritage and Creativity Center will host a Community Day on Saturday, May 10, offering guided tours, local crafts, and hands-on creative spaces for the public.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the historic 9-acre site in Oak Ridge. Admission is $10 and includes access to guided tours of the museum and more than 20 restored buildings on the property, which reflect the cultural and artistic legacy of the region.
Craft booths featuring handmade items will be set up throughout the grounds, with many goods available for purchase. Visitors will also have access to designated workspaces for blacksmithing, woodworking and other forms of traditional craft-making.
Founded in 2003 by artist Joe Rolfe in memory of his late wife, Starr Rives, Starr Homeplace serves as a cultural and educational hub in northeast Louisiana. The center provides a space for artists, writers and craftspeople to create and connect, while also preserving the rural heritage of the area.
Rolfe said the event is designed to celebrate creativity, community and the importance of cultural preservation.
“Starr Homeplace has always been about giving people a space to create and to learn,” Rolfe said. “Community Day is a chance to invite others in to share in that experience.”
