The Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival will be held on Saturday, October 5 at Lazare Park in west Monroe. Today, the city the City of West Monroe held a press conference releasing key details and events for festival day.
The Celtic Festival is the longest running festival in Ouachita Parish, and improvements of beautification and event logistics are still a priority as new events are introduced to the festival this year. The 2023 festival was moved from Kiroli Park to Lazarre Park, and organizers say the move was a great success — such a success that the 2024 festival will stay at Lazarre Park.
Striving for a mix of traditional Celtic and Cajun sounds, musicians such as Louisiana State Fiddle Champion James Linden Hogg, Beth Patterson, Red River Pipes, and Mandolin State will be featured throughout the day.
The annual Highland Games will also be returning with six disciplines including both caber and sheaf toss. The games are open to both professional and amateurs and includes categories for both men and women.
This year's festival will also feature the new Children's Highland Games. Other activities for children include the Children's Glen featuring furry friends such as Highland Cattle, falcons, dog agility, and a petting zoo. Plush Highland cows are also available with sponsorship or for purchase at the festival.
